Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture

For the first time, a major museum in the United States has dedicated an entire exhibition to gay and lesbian portraiture. The show is called Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture and it is showing at the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian until Valentines Day, 2011. Hide/Seek is one of the largest and most expensive shows the National Portrait gallery has ever launched, with over a hundred works of art.

The show features works by Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Beauford Delaney, Georgia O’Keefe, Annie Leibovitz and Romaine Brooks, to name a few.
