90,000 Sign Petition for Apple to Removal Anti-Gay App

An online petition has now been backed by over 90,000 signatures, all demanding that Apple pull an app from iTunes which is aimed at “homosexual strugglers.”

The petition, created by Change.org and Truth Wins Out, asks Apple to remove the app created by Exodus International, a famous “ex-gay” organization that claims it can “cure” homosexuality through a combination of phony psychology and prayer. The pro-Christian group promotes the “ex-gay” movement, and claims that the app gives users “freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus.”

Every major psychological and medical organization has condemned Exodus and warned that its treatment not only fails but causes great harm to people who seek it.

A new petition letter addressed to Steve Jobs was posted on the Change.org site last week saying: “Apple doesn’t allow racist or anti-Semitic apps in its app store, yet it gives the green light to an app targeting vulnerable LGBT youth with the message that their sexual orientation is a ‘sin that will make your heart sick’ and a ‘counterfeit. This is a double standard that has the potential for devastating consequences. Apple needs to be told, loud and clear, that this is unacceptable.”

Apple has not said whether it intends to pull the free app.
