Today we commemorate the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is an occasion marked by women’s groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. Today we remember inspirational women of the past nine decades who have struggled for equality, justice, peace and development. Additionally, we must draw attention to the continued inequality for women worldwide: from workplace inequities, to disenfranchisement, to sexual violence at epidemic proportions (human trafficking, domestic violence, rape, and rape as a weapon of war).

Here are a few things to check out – a great interview with Amnesty International’s Widney Brown (below) ; Jessica Yee’s IWD wish list on racialicious.com (she is the incredible founder of the Native Youth Sexual Health Network. The piece is from a few years ago but may as well have been written today); the women’s struggles poster pack at justseeds.org (15 beautiful and educational posters for $35!); the video with Daniel Craig and Judi Dench for getequal.org (below); and planned parenthood – get involved!!!
