The Toronto Zoo is home to Buddy and Pedro, two male penguins born in captivity. The pair arrived in May and instantly bonded to each other, showing signs of mating behavior, or “pair bonding’’ exactly like their male/female coupling counterparts.

Joe Torzsok, chair of the Toronto zoo board, said of the penguin pair: “It’s a complicated issue, but they seem to be in a loving relationship of some sort”.

Unfortunately, Buddy and Pedro are two members of an extremely endangered species, the African penguin, and according to the zoo, they must get them to mate with females in order to procreate.

Buddy and Pedro will be forcibly split in the coming weeks. Here’s a video of Buddy and Pedro being the cutest boyfriends ever, in case this story wasn’t heartbreaking enough without having to seem them cuddle.
